Anzar is the companion piece to my sculpture Muzeera. He is calling out to his beloved in the breeze, speaking words of affection. This high-relief sculpture was hand-cast in high-quality polyurethane resin and then carefully painted to a copper finish with turquoise patina accents. It has been finished with a satin varnish. The back of the casting has a sandstone-type texture, also painted copper. The sculpture measures 7.1"/18 cm wide and 7.3"/18.5 cm high, with a depth (measured at the highest point) of approximately 0.7"/1.8 cm. The clear plastic stand seen in the photo is included.
Anzar (meaning “angel of paradise” as well as “pure silver, gold) is based on a horse I greatly admired but never got the chance to see in real life. He had a rather unique head profile which I’ve tried my best to capture.
Anzar is set on a background plate decorated with tiny hieroglyphs. I deliberately made it a little less than perfect - the hieroglyphs are faded in places, and the surface is a little uneven, buckled, and “damaged” here and there. Although much of the art of ancient Egypt is remarkably well-preserved, time stands still for no-one and just as with Muzeera I wanted to reflect that in this piece. It’s a reminder to take care of that which matters to you and to go see as many of the wonders of the world as you can before they are gone.
